Libelula Rustic Accommodation & Diving - Nacala

Libelula is a small, privately owned and run lodge on the shores of Nacala, Africa's deepest natural harbour. The lodge used to be called Bay Diving, which steadily built up an excellent reputation over the years.   A few facelift improvements have taken place since the new owners opened Libelula in July 2009.  Look forward to  home-cooked meals with fresh prouce straight from the garden.  This oasis hosts a restaurant, complemented by a variety of accommodation options from wooden A-:frames, double rooms and a dormitory through to camping. The lodge is situated on a high ledge, providing expansive views of the bay with 99 stone steps down to the beach. There are kilometres of beach to be explored and interesting snorkelling in generally calm and clean water.

Year round they have frequent sightings of unusual and photogenic critters - seahorses, frogfish, Mauritian and paper scorpions, ghost pipefish, seamoths, plenty of lionfish of various species, Harlequin shrimps and ribbon eels. Summer months yield the gamefish - barracuda, kingfish, sailfish and wahoo, although not in the abundance found in the South of Mozambique. The Winter months of Aug-Oct bring the Humpback whales right into the bay where they can be seen and heard from the A-frames, beach and restaurant, or even closer from a boat trip. Sunfish (mola mola) move up from the deep of one reef in the months of May-July. Dolphins are often sighted. There are no sharks or other large pelagics in the bay.

Non divers can spend their days snorkelling, paddling or drinking around the pool, or take a trip to the nearby World Heritage Site, Ilha de Mozambique.

Libelua is accessible from Nampula, Ilha de Mozambique or Pemba by road (own vehicle, private transfer or bus to Nacala).
